Now available for the passenger too! Such a crucial roadtrip modification. Bonus points because the passenger side phone mount makes for some pretty great in-car footage. iOttie seriously makes some fantastic mounts.
If weather is decent I may finally hook up one of the two gauges in my center stack. Oil pressure should be pretty simple, I’ve got an oil filter sandwich plate that will accept the sender so all I need to do is figure out wire routing from there to the heater vents I stuffed the gauges in.
Any project ideas for the Miata?

I had wireless charging on a phone once. I used it a couple times. Then...no...
I don’t get why people are so mad about it. USB-C is really easy to just plug in. Maybe in the car it’s worth it, though.

Agreed, USB c is great. And way faster than wireless, even if this is the new “high-speed” wireless. I love it for in the car though. No more wearing out plugs or ports (that’s such a pain). Plus I can charge any modern phone, regardless of make.

Rubber floor mats? Given you take it off-road and like to be outdoors, rubber mats might offer some peace of mind in case you get back in with dirty shoes/boots.

I seriously need to get a good phone mount but there’s nowhere really good to put it on my dash and I don’t want suction cups. I guess this is what I get for being really picky.

This reminds me that I need to order phone mount parts. I’m tired of my phone floating around and need to be able to see/touch it without holding it.

That is a really good one. My drivers side mat has a head sized hole in it and I keep putting off a replacement

Hmm... You don’t want suction cups on the window, or in general? Most of these suction cup mounts come with adaptors that will work wonderfully on dashes.
I didn’t think I’d like it at first, but the miniscule amount of lost visibility is greatly offset by the added convenience of having good phone mounts

I’ve got two different kinds of iOttie mounts that you’re welcome to mess around with on the cruise. I never really liked the vent mounts because they’re a bit flimsy and in the way

Are they both vent mounts? My wife has a vent mount and I passionately hate it.
I have a vague plan to get proclip mount, riser, and holder. I really should do that soon.

I meant the two in the Miata currently, window suction mounts adjusted to keep sight lines as clear as possible. I’m curious about the proclips. They’re spendy and in most configurations seem to only offer 15° of swivel in any direction. Are they being sold as a super solid no-shake mount?

I really like the mounts that fit into the CD slot, if your car still has one and it’s not in a place that would cause the phone to block the radio screen. Mine is super stable and doesn’t get in the way of anything.

I don’t want suction cups but especially on the window.

Most LE uses them (or something similar) for mounting devices/laptops; phone mounts are not their bread and butter. I do like that some of their mounts have a built in power connector so you just slide it in and you’re done.
I’d like to check them out, since I’ve had a hard time finding any decent mounts. On the other hand, the amount of A pillar on most cars makes me reluctant to put anything on a windshield anywhere. On the other hand, it could be a good solution for use in rental cars where you’ll need something but can’t carry anything too complicated.
My car needs either their console mount or something custom (I have been considering building a clamp for it), a pedestal (the ends rotate and lock), then a holder.

I think those are great solutions. However, mine is a cartridge style changer

Oh yes: Alternatively, there are systems of parts used in professional photography that will also do what I want, aside from holding the phone.
